Whitehead Lighthouse (look Martyn, you can see our house from here)

It was a lovely day so Martyn and I took a walk along the cliff path at Whitehead. I didn't mind the first part of the walk (along the coastal path), or even the ascent up the steps, but I was not fond of looking down from the top of the cliffs!

The world's shortest canal?

These locks at Lisburn Civic Centre allow boats to pass by the weir on the River Lagan and go a short distance upstream or downstream but not much further. Martyn and I were able to travel a far greater distance by walking along the old Lagan Canal towpath. We started from Ballyskeagh and walked to Lisburn then back. Just to the right of where this photo was taken is the statue of Dr Frank Pantridge (inventor of the portable defibrillator). The statue itself is unremarkable, however the glasses are really old fashioned - obviously they couldn't go to specsavers in those days

The Weather Watching Camera

On UTV they post photos of obscure towns and villages with even more weird and wonderful 'clues' by Frank Mitchell and you have to guess the place name. Even the best known town and village names become totally unrecognisable when introduced by these clues! Anyway, here is my own WWC post - this is the River Bann at Portglenone, another dawn shot. My job means that a lot of my photos are taken early in the morning when I'm out and about Posted by Picasa

Size does matter

This is a crop of a moorhen on her nest. I couldn't get any closer with the 28-80mm lens on the camera. My 70-3oomm zoom would have got me a much closer view , proof indeed that size does matter Posted by Picasa

Continuation

This week I took up where I left off last week. Starting from Ballyskeagh I walked towards Belfast and went as far as Sir Thomas and lady Dixon park where I spotted these daffodils, a nice change from yellow I thought Posted by Picasa

Time for a well earned rest

I could have done with one of these this week as it has been extremely busy in work. Posted by Picasa

Shaw's Bridge

Today I walked from Shaw's Bridge along the old Lagan Canal towpath as far as Upper Malone Road at Sir Thomas and Lady Dixon Park. This is one of the old locks I passed on the way. There is plenty of other evidence of the old canal including old lock gates and water channels Posted by Picasa

River Lagan

Not too many people about when I took this one - it's an early morning view of the River Lagan taken from Ormeau Embankment Posted by Picasa

Today we are seeing double

My first post last night vanished, never to appear again I thought, so I reposted the photo and didn't bother with any text. Today the missing post appeared so you can have 2 for the price of 1. Have a nice day

Home

Instantly recognisable, the two cranes Samson and Goliath (I'm not sure which one this is) tower over East Belfast. Coming in by sea up Belfast Lough or into the Belfast Harbour Airport (soon to be re-named George Best Airport), you know you're home when you see them Posted by Picasa

Painting?

As an experiment I set the camera on manual and overexposed to get this photo which I think looks almost like a painting. The other photo I took at the "correct" exposure as indicated by the camera's meter showed up all the junk and litter in the river Posted by Picasa

A bit of colour

The sun came out for a while after the rain, bringing out the colour of the grass and the bushes. Shortly after this was taken the blue sky was replaced by a grey sky filled with big black rain clouds Posted by Picasa

Nostalgia

Today I took a walk round Victoria Park in East Belfast. I haven't been there since I was a nipper. The open air cold water swimming pool that we used to go to as schoolboys has now gone, it's old wall and fence still intact, but the pool now filled in and planted with trees and bushes. There were a couple of really heavy showers with sunny spells in between. I was able to get some nice reflections photos and there was plenty of colour in the daffodils and the flowering cherry trees

Green Wing is back

River Lagan, Stranmillis

I got a text from Brian Hogg to say he would not be in to work. As expected this was an April Fool, fortunately the only one as I was in a bad way myself this morning. I had been laughing so hard at the first episode in the new series of Green Wing on Channel 4 on Friday night that my sides were still sore - it's even better than Little Britain. I had to take bread to a shop on the Ormeau Road and I got this photo from the embankment on the way back to the bakery.
